GNDU Organises Workshop on Authentic Neapolitan Pizza and Breads: Italian Culinary Excellence and Entrepreneurship

The Department of Hotel Management & Tourism, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, successfully organised a two-day workshop on “Crafting Authentic Neapolitan Pizza and Breads: Italian Culinary Excellence and Entrepreneurship.” The event blended hands-on training in authentic Italian baking with insightful sessions on innovation and entrepreneurship in the food industry.
The workshop commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Harpreet Singh (Event Coordinator, Department of Hotel Management), who greeted the dignitaries, faculty, and participants. A floral welcome was extended to Chef Kavesh Attary, Associate Professor of Culinary Arts, Chitkara University, by Prof. Balwinder Singh, Coordinator, GJCEI.
In his keynote address, Prof. Balwinder Singh motivated the students to explore innovative concepts in entrepreneurship, sharing practical insights from the hospitality and culinary sectors. He assured participants that Guru Nanak Dev University’s GJCEI (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cell) would support and fund promising entrepreneurial ventures. Prof. Aparna Bhatia, Deputy Coordinator, GJCEI, also inspired the gathering to embrace creativity, innovation, and risk-taking as key to professional success.
Practical sessions were led by Chef Kavesh Attary, who demonstrated authentic methods of preparing Neapolitan pizzas and artisan breads. He emphasised respecting tradition and authenticity while embracing innovation in gastronomy. Students actively participated in hands-on training, gaining exposure to international culinary practices.
On the second day, Chef Attary curated a range of Italian breads and pizzas, followed by interactive practice sessions with students. The workshop concluded with a Valedictory Ceremony, where Prof. Lakhwinder Singh Kang (Dean, Faculty of Business & Economics) congratulated participants, highlighted the entrepreneurial potential of culinary skills, and awarded certificates to the students.
The formal Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Raj Kumar (Event Co-coordinator), who expressed gratitude to the resource person, coordinators Prof. Balwinder Singh, Dr. Aparna Bhatia, and Dr. Harpreet Singh, along with the organising team members for their dedicated efforts in making the event a grand success. Prof. Tejwant Singh Kang (Head, Department of Hotel Management & Tourism) also acknowledged the contribution of faculty and students, reaffirming the department’s commitment to skill-based and experiential learning.
The workshop was well-received by students, who participated with great enthusiasm, gaining both technical expertise and entrepreneurial vision. The Department of Hotel Management & Tourism reiterated its mission to provide platforms that combine academic knowledge, practical skills, and innovation, preparing students to excel in the dynamic culinary and hospitality industry.
